Welcome to our third Newsletter of 2020.  We are continuing with Meetings until the Government / PHE / NHS advice is to suspend them.

The 2020 HHPS Exhibition is now open at Hampton Library.

It transferred from Teddington Library on 29th February and will remain on display until 21st March 2020.  (See further information later on in the newsletter).

Next Meeting
Wednesday, 18th March 2020 8pm at The Bell Inn: Society AGM. Also, selection of Members’ Digital Photos for SPA Competition.

This is the AGM for members of the Society where the Chairperson, Secretary and Treasurer will present their annual reports to those members present.
Members will then re-elect existing Committee members and/or nominate new members. This AGM is the end of the 2-year term served by Committee members

Members: we would be grateful for volunteers to join our Committee to take over from existing Committee Members.

We expect the AGM not to last too long!  So, we have enough time in the remainder of the evening to select images from those submitted by Members for inclusion in the Society’s entries into the SPA inter-club PDI championship in May.  Members present will vote for the best 16 images for “Open” and 8 images for “Nature” categories.  Members will have received emails explaining how to upload their maximum six images for each.  You can see the complete new for 2020 rules on the SPA’s website: https://surreypa.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/SPA-Inter-club-PDI-Championship-Rules-May-2020.pdf

Sad News
Our Member Chris Hicks died last month. Chris had been suffering from non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma for almost 2 years but despite that he became an active member of our Society.  He took part regularly in our Meetings and contributing to our competition and picture sharing.  We shall miss him and his humour very much!

Last Month’s Meeting
Last month we had a talk from Rene de Heer: Diaries of a Nature Photographer, around the world in 90 minutes. Rene not only presented a wide range of images of birds, but he also showed us the tricks used to get such stunning shots from hides.  He also showed a few images of other animals.  We also realised the dedication needed to spend all day in space that was definitely not big enough to “swing a cat” and not being able to go outside for any reason until the shoot was over!

Next Month’s Meeting
Wednesday, 15th April 2020 8pm at The Bell Inn: Chris Hutchinson ‘Landscape with Figures’

The talk is about how to photograph the human body in new ways.  The body is, after all, one of the commonest things around – we’ve all got one.  I majored on doing it underwater.
Warning:  The talk contains nudity!
