Next Meeting
Wednesday, 19th June  –  upstairs at The Bell Inn, Hampton
2 Charnock’s on Churches & Cuba
Expect an entertaining evening of brilliant prints and digital images by husband and wife team Rob and Jay Charnock FRPS, active members of the Royal Photographic Society and Richmond and Twickenham Photographic Society.  We will be seeing church images shot by Rob followed by Jay’s talk – her tourist eye view of Cuba – which she has visited three times and would have liked to have had a more profound look at.

Last Month
Wednesday, 15th May
John Sheaf, local historian and author, “Hampton in Old Photos 1850s-1930s”.
A great evening jam-packed with projected images taken from picture postcards from John’s collection of thousands, with his running commentary on picturesque old Hampton, its history and famous residents.  He started with the oldest photos, on glass in round wooden frames, showing how narrow the roads used to be, how few houses there were, though several were substantial, and the changes over the years.  Following his talk, John demonstrated the breadth of his knowledge by quickly answering all the questions raised.

Future Meetings
Wednesday, 17th July: “Polaroid cameras”.
Anne Nanou will start with a presentation and bring several cameras for a practical demonstration.  The second half will be hands-on as members will be able to take photos of each other on her cameras (film supplied) and take prints home.

Beyond July
Two subjects we have in mind for future meetings are a talk and demonstration on long exposures and a studio session on techniques for portraits.  We would like feedback indicating interest from Members on both of these before arranging them.
We have an evening for members to show their own photos of any subject; this is currently pencilled in for October, but may be moved to September to suit availability of speakers.   We also have our annual Members’ Christmas Competition in December – see details below.

We would like Members to suggest any other aspect of photography they would like a presentation on and if, for example, they would like us to organise a Sunday walk or other similar event.

December’s Christmas social and digital photo competition:
This year’s theme for the competition is “Inspired by a Book Title”, i.e. the image title is the book title.  Up to three digital images can be entered by each member which have to have been taken during 2019.  As usual, an outside judge will be invited to make comments on them.  He will then select the three he thinks best but leave it to our members to vote for their favourite.

Other Future Events:
PAGB Inter-Club PDI Championship: a chance to see amazing photos on Saturday, 13th July at 10.15am at The Arts Centre University of Warwick (just south-west of Coventry).  Click on the PAGB newsletter to see details: http://www.pagbnews.co.uk/sites/default/files/newsletters/en%20230%2015%20May%202019.pdf

On Saturday, 19th October the Surrey Photographic Association (‘SPA’) will hold its AGM at East Horsley plus the annual individual PDI and print competition.  The rules are the same as for the recent inter-club one but photographers submit entries independently, not through the club.  Members must be there on the day or else any winning photos will be disqualified!
