Last Month
Gina Glover gave us an engrossing talk on her career as a campaigning photographer. Initially employed by Ken Livingston’s GLC to document the social issues of London, she has continued to use her photography as a campaigning tool.

For the first part of her talk, she described using a pinhole camera and showed the images she achieved.

The remainder of her talk was about her capturing images of the pollution caused by the oil industry in parts of America. This included the rusting remains of oil wells and their associated equipment, the polluting gases leaking from uncapped wells and the chemicals spilt from fracking.

An interesting evening of images which gave a very strong message!

Next Month
Wednesday, 16th October – Members’ Images
Members are invited to bring along up to six (maximum) images to “show and tell”. The images should either tell a story or be some you are very proud of or are looking for comment or advice on.

Future Meetings
November: Chris Hutchinson, SPA speaker, of Yateley Camera Club ‘The Human Figure in the Landscape’

December: Christmas social and digital photo competition:
The competition theme is “Inspired by a Book Title”, i.e. the image title is the book title. Each member can submit up to three digital images which have to have been taken during 2019 but must be of different books though sequels will be allowed, i.e. not different images of the same book. As usual, an outside judge will be invited to make comments on them. He will then select the three he thinks best but leave it to our members to vote for their favourite.

January: TBA

February: Members’ Annual Print Exhibition at Teddington Library

February: We are trying to arrange a speaker who specialises in making light trails – this would be outdoors near the Bell.

March: This will be our Annual General Meeting (AGM).  We are looking for new members of the Committee. This is a serious request as a couple of Committee Members are wishing to leave the Committee!

SPA
On Saturday afternoon, 19th October, the Surrey Photographic Association (‘SPA’) will hold its AGM at East Horsley plus the annual individual PDI and print competition; see link here https://surreypa.org.uk/. This is “Individual” not “Club” entry; the rules are here https://surreypa.org.uk/spa-individual-print-pdi-rules-october-2019-2/. There are Print and PDI classes – for “Open” and “Nature” – four in total. PDIs for both prints and PDIs have to be submitted by 5th October, i.e. two weeks in advance. Members must be there on the day or else any winning photos will be disqualified! It is a great way to see what “Judges” think of your images – and to see what they think of a wide variety of images!

HHPS Website:
We are continuing to update the website and any comments or suggestions from members on the content or look of the website would still be very welcome. For e-mail addresses of our committee members, click on the Contact tab.
