Members are invited to show up to 8 of their own images – we suggest their latest holidays and travels, otherwise any subject, with running commentary, discussion, advice and questions from the audience welcomed.
Visitors are welcome to come and see what we do and can pay the £3 fee (cash please) on the door.

“Out of Africa”: a talk by John Nathan ARPS
John showed us a large and varied selection of wonderful photographs taken over a long period in South Africa, Namibia, Kenya, Tanzania and Ethiopia. They consisted mainly of wildlife but also churches and architecture. He said he tries to convey a feeling of each country and he succeeded, pointing out that he travelled independently and often off the beaten track.

“The Letterbox Fiend”: a talk by Philip Quarry FRPS
Philip is a member of Kingston Camera Club and the RPS. We will be pleased to welcome him back to present his latest talk which, he says, could be subtitled “(Mis)adventures in Masking” and that “It is about the ways I’ve presented projected images, and still do so, from masking 35mm slides to the opportunities of the digital age. It is not about photographing letterboxes!”
Philip photographs many different subjects but says “My passion, though, has long been abstract images particularly seeking them in the world around me, looking for the extraordinary within the ordinary. I also enjoy exploring new avenues and styles outside my comfort zone.” You can see his website – https://philipquarry.

Members’ SPA competition photos
We are asking our members to each submit up to 6 digital images to be considered for entry into 5th December’s SPA interclub PDI championship – nature and general categories. A dropbox and instructions will be sent to members. The rules are in the SPA website – click on the Library down arrow then select Documents. Please note: “A photographer who belongs to more than one club/society may only permit their images to be entered in an SPA Inter-club Championship event with one club in any one year (1st September to 31st August).”
NB: This is the second time this competition is taking place this year. Normally it would be next May but it has been swapped with the print competition as the light in the room is too bright to see PDIs properly in May.

Christmas social and internal club competition
We will start the evening with a festive dinner in The Bell Inn’s main restaurant. Afterwards we will go up to our private meeting room for our competition with Shadows as the theme this year.
Andrew Webster ARPS from Dorking Camera Club will be joining us and assessing our digital images (up to 3 per member) and selecting those he thinks best. Our members and guests will have the final vote on the winner who will be presented with the magnificent Mike Hammond trophy.
SURREY PHOTOGRAPHIC ASSOCIATION (SPA)
24th October: The annual SPA Individual Print & PDI Competitions will be taking place at East Horsley Village Hall. This is a great opportunity to meet other clubs and see their images. Entrants have to be there otherwise their photos will be disqualified.
3rd October is the deadline for uploading images. The SPA website gives details plus rules: Individual-Print-PDI-
EXHIBITIONS
Hampton Hill Photographic Society’s 2027 annual print exhibition
Friday, 15th January 2027: official opening/private view in Teddington Library
Saturday, 16th January: members’ prints on display in Teddington Library (free entry) for 4 weeks.
Monday, 15th February: the exhibition will be transferred to Hampton Library for a further 4 weeks. The winning prints will be on show afterwards.
The World Press Photo Exhibition is on until 30th September
The exhibition is the world’s most prestigious showcase of photojournalism and documentary photography and is the widest-ranging annual photo exhibition worldwide.

Hampton Hill Photographic Society supplied all the photos (of Hampton of course) for the Hampton Society’s 2027 calendar. It is A4 size and costs £7.50. Here is a photo of the back page.
