The committee wishes you all a healthy, promising and fulfilling New Year!  You now have over half a million minutes to take a great, winning picture in 2022.

LOCATION:  In person ONLY at The Bell Inn
Jay Charnock FRPS – Evaluation of Mounted Prints for Exhibition and Competition

This was suggested by Members to understand what to look for in mounted prints.  We are not generally a competitive Club although we like to take part in the occasional SPA competition; we also enjoy our Annual Exhibitions in the Hampton and Teddington Libraries, when Covid permits!
Tonight, Jay  has kindly agreed to review some of our mounted prints and give us advice on what to look for in our Exhibition work and in any competition which HHPS might enter.  Jay will pick up on our strengths and weaknesses and give us hints and tips to help us improve.  She may have some of her own work to show us as examples too.
For the meeting, we are asking members to bring along up to five mounted prints for review.  These may be those you submitted to our recent exhibition at the Hampton Library, or others which you have and would like to bring along to discuss.

Christmas Competition and Social with Members

We held our Annual Christmas Competition in-person in the upstairs room of the Bell Inn, Hampton on Wednesday 15th December.  The set subject this year was “a colour”.
Thirteen Members and Guests attended and listened to our judge, Eddie Hyde FRPS, comment on 23 images from eight Members and select the best three for vote by the members.
In the first round of voting two images tied for first place.  A second vote to separate these two images resulted in a second tie, so Eddie Hyde selected the winning image – ‘Flaming Amaryllis’ by Rosie Littlemore (below).  Judy Hicks was second with ‘Standing out in Turquoise’ and Penny Westmoreland third with ‘Lavender Girls, Mayfield’.

The formal evening ended with Eddie presenting the Mike Hammond Trophy to Rosie – followed by a pizza buffet and drinks. This was a members only competition, but guests and family members were welcome to join us and see our work.

Wednesday, 16th February – 8:00-10:00 PM

Wednesday March 16th – 8.00-10.00 PM at The Bell Inn, Hampton
Our Annual General Meeting will take place on this date. Please plan to come along and support your committee: how about standing for election?
After the business of the meeting, we will run a selection process for the SPA Inter-Club PDI Championship which will be held in East Horsley Village Hall on 14 May 2022. We have to get our entry in by 30 April 2022.

Lookout for details of our April and May speakers.  June will be a Members Image Sharing evening.

We are planning to hold our next annual members’ print exhibition in Teddington and Hampton libraries in May and June – exact dates to be confirmed. All Members will be invited to put forward a panel of prints show-casing their best work – so start planning now!

We have replaced the “Photographer of the Month” feature by “Theme of the Month”.  Each month, members will be invited to submit two images on a particular theme. For January 2022, the theme was ‘Christmas’ and for February 2022, it will be ‘Valentine’.
Members are asked to suggest themes for subsequent months.

All being well, the SPA Biennial Exhibition 2020 will be showing at Guildford House Gallery, 155 High Street, Guildford from 10 to 30 April 2022. Three of our Members have pictures in this Exhibition:  Gokhan Darcan (Digital), David Hicks (Print) and Judy Hicks (Print) so please go along and see their work if you can, when April comes around!.
The SPA Website ( https://surreypa.org.uk) has been updated with dates for Events and Exhibitions next year. Keep an eye on the Surrey Photographic Association | Facebook pages for information which may be going on in the area, for local club Exhibitions and talks.

I hope to see you all at The Bell, and wish you all a Healthy and Happy New Year.
Rick, Committee Member for Publicity and Memberships
