“The Great Silk Road Today”: a presentation by David Smith LRPS CPAGB

This talk will cover both history and geography as David starts in Xian, the first capital of China, and we follow the Great Silk Road to Istanbul, formerly Constantinople, where merchants travelled to obtain silk from China.  Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Georgia and Armenia are visited en route as we see how silk, religion, food (including rhubarb) and knowledge travelled to and from China to the West from ancient times until the mid-15th century.
